The Story of Sawantwadi Home
Most Rev. Dr. Allwyn Anthony Fernandes Barreto, the Bishop of Sindhudurg Diocese invited the Little Sisters of the Poor to establish a Home for the Aged, for the poor and abandoned elderly. This Home in Sawantwadi was gifted to the Little Sisters of the Poor by Mr and Mrs. Shashikant Pednekar. It really needed a renovation so as to accommodate the elderly people. Besides, the pandemic stepped in which prevented the foundation to be realized earlier. At last the long awaited day arrived.
On 25th October 2021, the 229th Birth Anniversary of Saint Jeanne Jugan, our Mother Foundress, the new Home in Sawantwadi, the 15th Foundation of the Province of India was inaugurated. The Ceremony began at 10.30 am presided by Bishop Most Rev. Alwyn Anthony Fernandes Barreto of Sindhudurg Diocese. The Little Sisters from Mumbai, Mangalore and Goa were present for the inauguration.
