The Story of Tuticorin Home

1973 was the Golden Jubilee of the diocese of Tuticorin. To have a lasting memorial of this great event, the Little Sisters were invited to run a Home for the Aged by Most Rev Ambrose, then Bishop of Tuticorin. The Apostolic pro Nuncio blessed the tablet of the Home on 24th September 1973. Initially the home at Kerecope Street welcomed 20 Ladies and Men.  The actual site at Ettayapuram Road was donated by three different benefactors. On 28th of January 1977, the Foundation stone of the New Home was laid, and was completed on 25th June 1978 accommodating 100 Residents and 9 Little Sisters. In 2008 reconstruction of the home was planned due to leakages. The inauguration of the New Home was on 11th July 2012 and it welcomes 108 Elderly with spacious corridors, individual and double bedded rooms and a separate block for the couples. It also has a Physiotherapy unit and an occupational therapy unit to keep the Elderly fit and to use their talents according to their possibilities. At present, we are 12 Little Sisters taking care of the elderly Residents.
