A Special Day for Our Elderly Residents

In our homes across India, we annually set aside a special day to honor our beloved residents. This day, typically celebrated on July 26th, coincides with the feast day of Saints Joachim and Anne, the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It's a day to celebrate the wisdom and love of our elders, much like we celebrate the grandparents of Jesus.

Sawantwadi Home Celebrates a Grand Occasion

This year's celebration at the Sawantwadi Home was filled with joy and excitement. Our eight elderly residents were thrilled to see the dining hall beautifully decorated. They even thought they were stepping into a wedding hall! But as they dressed in their finest clothes, they soon realized this festive day was a celebration just for them.

The celebration began with a special Holy Eucharist at 4 p.m., presided over by Fr. Milton Monteiro. Many from the local community came to join the service, making the day even more special. During his homily, Father Milton spoke about the mission of the Little Sisters and the significance of celebrating the grandparents of Jesus. Following the Mass, he personally greeted each resident, offering them a single rose.

The celebration continued with a delightful program. The residents were captivated by a beautiful dance performance by Miss Shreya Mistry. After the program, everyone enjoyed delicious homemade samosas and refreshing ginger juice, prepared with love by two of our employees and Mrs. Vaishnavi Mistry.

As the day came to a close, some residents, feeling like honored guests, were a little surprised to find out they were staying! Their confusion only added to the day's charm. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the many community members who stayed behind to help the Little Sisters rearrange the chairs and tables after the festivities. Their assistance was a true blessing.

It was a truly memorable day for everyone, celebrating the beautiful lives of our residents and the spirit of community that surrounds them.

Celebrating Our Beloved Residents at Bangalore

St. Joseph's Home

On July 26, 2025, St. Joseph's Home in Bengaluru joyfully celebrated our annual Residents' Feast, a special day dedicated to honoring the cherished elders in our care. The festivities brought together residents, staff, and special guests in a spirit of warmth and community.

The multi-purpose hall was filled with smiles as all our residents gathered for the occasion. We were honored to have Mr. Haris, the MLA of the Shanthinagar constituency, grace the event with his presence. His visit made the day even more memorable for our residents. Mr. Haris personally greeted each and every resident, taking the time to chat and share a few kind words. He also thoughtfully distributed packets of Horlicks to everyone, a gesture that was deeply appreciated by all.

The Residents' Feast is a day we look forward to every year, as it reminds us of the profound love and respect we have for our elderly. It's a time to celebrate their lives, wisdom, and the joy they bring to our home. The presence of community leaders like Mr. Haris reinforces the strong bonds between St. Joseph's Home and the wider community, showing our residents just how much they are valued.

The Little Sisters of the Poor and their Residents in Mysore had wonderful and grace-filled month of our Mother St. Jeanne Jugan with a very active participation of everyone during the Novena days. On the Feast day, Bishop Emeritus of Mysore, Rt. Rev. Thomas Anthony Vazhapilly presided over the solemn Eucharistic celebration with our chaplain Fr. Arul Selvakumar. There was solemn entrance procession, Prayer of the faithful and offertory procession made the celebration more intense moment of grace. The Holy Eucharist was in Kannada & the melodious choir helped us to unite our praises with heavenly liturgy. We are immensely grateful to our Mother St. Jeanne Jugan for all the graces and blessings she obtains for the world, Church, Congregation and for each one of us.

At the conclusion of the Holy Eucharist, a significant surprise awaited everyone. Mr. Gladson, who visited our Home for the first time on the last First Friday of the month, noticed that there was an Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in the chapel throughout the day. This inspired him to donate a large Monstrance to the Home, enabling our dear Residents to benefit more from the day of adoration. On the feast of our Mother, Saint Jeanne Jugan, he brought his gift to be blessed by the Bishop and presented this precious gift at the end of the Mass. Our Mother St. Jeanne, who ardently loved the Eucharistic Lord, would surely be very pleased with Gladson's generous and kind gesture. May God bless his thoughtfulness and love for the Elderly.
